Hungry Foxes on Our Hillside

(April 16, 2017)

Great for Children, Grand Children, and Great Grandchildren

A family of foxes play on the author’s hillside on an island in Maine all summer long.

Written in rhyming poetry that is pleasing to the ears, the story illustrates the cycle of life and how God provides for the animals he has created. Children love the vivid descriptions of the hillside and the animals who romp across it: mother deer with her faun bounding over the hillside, a family of minks poking their heads out at the top of the hill, eagles who swoop in and land on high branches.
When a sudden thunderstorm uproots trees on the hillside and drives all the animals deep into the woods, the children worry that the foxes were so frightened by the storm, they will no longer return. They wait and watch the edge of the woods from inside the cabin and are thrilled when the kits bounce onto the hillside as playful as ever.

"Wow. Excellent Job! During the firstread, I instantly thought about how God always sees through the “window” of our soul. He sees right through us! He provides for our every need just like he did for animals
in the poem. Not one creature goes unnoticed. The beauty of
nature and the cycle of life is well displayed throughout the
poem. "
 -Mandy Fordham

-Mistie Bowie

"Barbara, that’s beautiful. I see it as a delightful child’s book."
-Susan G.

"The kids and I just read the book aloud and loved it. It is absolutely wonderful! I read a lot of books and think this is definitely a book to be enjoyed by many readers young and old!
-Emily Casto

What a delightful and beautiful poem! It appeals to the curiosity of children, with their questions, their noticing different animals that visit the hill, and the animal behaviors. I can imagine the children running out daily, excited to look for the foxes or other animals on the hill. I love how it pointed to God’s provision for the kits. A great book for ages 4-7in my opinion, And it would be great educationally."
-Rachael Noble

"What a delightful children's book! Set in Maine, showcasing the cycle of life in all animals. All three of my children loved this book. A Must Read."
-Jennifer H.

"This captivating illustrated narrative reminds me of the refreshment of experiencing the surrounding intrigue of a submersible world: my flourishing childhood adventures of New England!! Looking forward to my ten grandkids' response and our conversations raised to a new level!"
